The Marine Board (formerly ESF) has published a policy paper with input from Micro B3.
It was presented by the Micro B3 coordinator Prof Glöckner during the maritime day in Gothenburg 2012 and is featured on Cordis wire with him as group leader and J-B Calewaert from the Marine Board as contacts.
Close contacts exist since 2005 with the EU US Task Force on Biotechnology Research and especially its Marine Genomics Working Group, which has held five workshops so far and held a meeting in Bremen recently.

These diverse initiatives are linked through the Digital Agenda for Europe which sets out an ambitious ‘open data’ policy covering the full range of information that public bodies across the European Union produce, collect or pay for. The EU's Innovation Union flagship also explicitly backs Open Access as an essential element in realising the European Research Area (ERA).
The Communication and Recommendation on scientific information focussing on better access to scientific information and a Communication on "A reinforced European Research Area partnership for excellence and growth’, both adopted in July 2012, set out key priorities for the next years, including the optimal circulation, access to and transfer of scientific knowledge.
The European Commission will continue to fund projects related to open access. In 2012-2013, the Commission will spend €45 million on data infrastructures and research on digital preservation. Funding will continue under the Horizon 2020 programme. During the same period, the Commission will support experimentation with new ways of handling scientific information.
The main objective of the e-Infrastructure Reflection Group is to support the creation of a political, technological and administrative framework for an easy and cost-effective shared use of distributed electronic resources across Europe. Particular attention is directed towards grid computing, storage, and networking. E-IRG was founded to define and recommend best practices for the pan-European electronic infrastructure efforts with official government delegates from all the EU countries. It produces white papers, roadmaps and recommendations, and analyses the future foundations of the European Knowledge Society.
