June 20, 2012 - Successful Pilot Ocean Sampling Day

On June 20 (summer solstice) 2012, Micro B3 launched the first pilot Ocean Sampling Day (OSD). 

Worldwide 20 stations (L4 UK, Roscoff France, Helgoland Germany, Naples Italy, Crete Greece, Blanes Spain, Moorea French Polynesia, BATS, SPOTS, HOTS all USA, Rothera Antarctica, Churchill Canada, Thames UK, Banyuls and Villefranche France, Kristineberg Sweden, VLIZ Belgium, North Cyprus, Red Sea Saudi Arabia and Iceland have volunteered to take samples in a concerted action using similar equipment.

This pilot OSD was the first test-case to train logistics and stimulate discussions about sample processing, analysis and intellectual property management. Repetitions are planned for winter and summer solstice 2012 and 2013 to be prepared for the “real” OSD on June 21st 2014.
