Successful joint EU project workshop@ECMNP 2015
Successful joint EU project workshop at ECMNP 2015
The 9th ‘European Conference on Marine Natural Products´, in short ECMNP, a must attend-event in 2015 for young researchers in the field of marine natural products, was held in Glasgow, Scotland from 30 August to 2 September. Thirty young researchers also attended a full-day pre-conference workshop chaired by experts from the EU-projects Seabiotech, PharmaSea, MaCuMBA, BlueGenics and Micro B3. The aim was to exchange methodologies in an interactive way, have four Q&A sessions, further networking and to learn about EU funding for PostDocs.
The following sessions were held:
1) Genomic Databases (Micro B3 and PharmaSea)
2) Culture Management (MaCuMBa)
3) Dereplication and Chemical Databases (PharmaSea and SeaBioTech)
4) Bioprocessing and Biopolymers (Bluegenics and SeaBiotech)
Micro B3 was represented by two SME representatives, Tom Van Den Bergh from the SME Bio-Prodict, and Johanna B. Wesnigk from EMPA Bremen. Also Stephen Jackson from the Micro B3 partner UCC, who personally works for PharmaSea, helped to flesh out the session on genomic databases and to answer specific questions of the international scientists, who mostly focus on pharmaceutical and biotech applications of marine biota.
